Do you see yourself in Government?

Because you should. Learn about our graduate programme and find out if GovTechTalent is right for you.

If you are community-minded and curious to learn about how you can apply your knowledge and skills to a digital and technological environment, you have come to the right place.

Most graduate programmes lock you into a particular role and industry, at a time when you aren’t 100% sure where your career might take you.

The GovTechTalent Graduate Programme gives you the opportunity to experience 2 different roles within 2 different government agencies over the course of 18 months — allowing you to explore a range of career paths and projects in the public sector with a unique digital and technological focus.

Who are we looking for?

GovTechTalent champions diversity in Government – empowering digitally-minded New Zealanders of all backgrounds to stand tall and be the voice of their community within the public service.

We place grads just like you in roles ranging from Data Analyst to Project Manager to Scrum Master to Policy Analyst to Developer to UX Designer to Cybersecurity to Cloud Specialist, just to name a few options!

We are interested in you as a person and how you can apply your unique personality, skills, experiences, and training to benefit New Zealand’s Government.

Think you’re a little outside the box? Might not typically apply for this type of opportunity? We strongly encourage you to put yourself forward because we need people like you to come work in the public sector to represent the diversity that is Aotearoa.

Applicants are not required to have a digital or IT related degree. We are looking for graduates from a range of disciplines who:

  • are interested in working in the digital space.

  • want to explore how technology can improve the lives of New Zealanders.

  • are in their final year of tertiary study; have graduated within the past 24 months with a bachelor’s degree or above; or have graduated with a graduate diploma or postgraduate certificate, level 7 or above, within the last 12 months.

To be considered for this programme, you must:

• be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident.

• be living in or willing to relocate yourself to Wellington.

• be available to work from February 2024.

What is the programme all about?

Kicking off in February 2024, you will begin the first of two placements.

Your first placement is carefully selected for you based on your foundational skills and interest areas, ensuring you are set up for success.

In your second placement, you will help select the departments and/or projects you wish to get involved in, refine your existing skills, and become career-ready.

You can find out more about the different types of placements here.

“The great thing about working with GovTechTalent, and government in general, is that you don't have to come from a tech background - you just have to have a passion for what you do.

I enjoy that a lot of my mahi gives back to tangata whenua. I am very passionate about using data to gain insight into our rangatahi and tamariki, and my team has helped me navigate through each project I have taken part in.”
